and he lives on Kodiak
Island, Alaska
Larsen Bay Lodge is the
premier brown bear destination. Kodiak Brown Bears are the largest
carnivores on the planet. The highest concentration of this sub-species
of brown bears is in our Guide Use Areas. Our bear hunting area includes
the famous Karluk Lake as well as the Kaluk River, Uyak Bay and Larsen
Bay where the Golden Age of bear hunting was conducted by the likes of
Alf Madsen and other famous outfitters. There are great genetics in our
area with largest bear skull ever taken coming from Karluk Lake.
Besides
bear concentrations and size in our units, Larsen Bay Lodge also has the
advantage of hunting, by cruising the shoreline of bays and lakes in
skiffs which allows us to cover dozens more miles than bear hunts
conducted on foot on the Alaska Peninsula and elsewhere. But unlike
boat-based hunts conducted in Southeast Alaska, we have a permanent
lodge on land with all the comfort and conveniences of home. The lodge
owner, operator and bear guide, Mike Carlson, grew up in Larsen Bay and
knows the area like the back of his hand. Local knowledge is priceless.
